At Angel’s Eyes of Beauty, we do it all! If you need a haircut, shampoo, blowdry, or hydration treatment, etc. However, what we specialize in is assessing and treating scalp issues. Many people have scalp issues at some point in their life and it can be a difficult situation to be in. There is a ton of advice on how to treat, clean, and condition hair but scarcely any on what to do if scalp issues crop up. That is one of the reasons Angela Williams of Angel’s Eyes is a licensed trichologist.

What Does a Trichologist Do?

If you haven’t heard, a trichologist is a scalp specialist that offers professional advice on assessing and treating scalp issues. Sometimes hair issues can actually be scalp issues in disguise. For example, many people who claim their hair is dry and prone to breakage are actually experiencing dry hair because their scalp is failing to produce enough sebum (oil) to coat and keep the hair moisturized. Sometimes oil production is fine but the scalp needs to be exfoliated to so the pores/follicles can be open and free.

1 – Dandruff

Have you ever feared scratching your head or wearing a black shirt? People with dandruff do. Dandruff are those tiny white flakes that shake off of your head every time you scratch or tousle your hair. For many people this is something they are embarrassed by and want to get rid of it immediately. Sometimes people are unaware that they have a mild dandruff problem because they’ve yet to notice the droppings near their shoulders.

Dandruff isn’t a health concern but it can be itchy and irritating. Sometimes cases of dandruff can be fixed simply by shampooing more frequently, but if you’re shampooing daily and still getting dandruff, it may be time to visit a trichologist to see what is the best course of action.

2 – Seborrheic Dermatitis

Dandruff is essentially a very mild form of seborrheic dermatitis. When this condition grows worse, it is almost like a completely different problem—which is why it is listed separately. Many people experience dandruff but not everyone experiences the more severe version. The scalp can grow very irritated and overproduce oil such that the dandruff flakes will now be markedly more greasy and reddish and can appear near the eyes, nose and ears.

3 – Psoriasis

Psoriasis is not just a scalp condition, but a skin condition that can appear anywhere on the skin. Psoriasis is a skin disorder that causes the multiplication of skin cells much faster than normal. This results in the skin having a buildup of reddish patches that are covered in scales because of the additional skin and shedding. It can be a very uncomfortable and itchy condition to have anywhere, but especially so on the scalp.

Visiting a trichologist such as at Angel’s Eyes of Beauty can help you decide what is the best course of action to take care of your hair, get rid of flaking, and reduce irritation.
